Town of Summerville’s New Waste Collection Service to Start One Month Earlier 6/15/2018
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – (Friday, June 15, 2018) Summerville Town Council voted Thursday night to enter into a temporary contract with Carolina Waste & Recycling, LLC to begin household garbage collection on July 2, 2018. The contract will start one month earlier than the original August 1, 2018 start date.
This comes after council voted to find Waste Pro in default of their contract with the Town on March 8, 2018 and solicit new bids for solid waste collection services. This was done due to an unacceptable level of solid waste collection service and complaints from Summerville residents. The new three-year contract was awarded to Carolina Waste & Recycling, LLC to begin solid waste collection services on August 1, 2018.
Council also voted to suspend recycling collection services in town limits between June 15 and July 31, 2018. Waste Pro will no longer collect recycling but will use all of their resources to catch up with town’s garbage routes. Waste Pro will continue servicing through July 1, 2018.
Residents are encouraged to continue to recycle by utilizing their county convenience sites.

Carolina Waste will only pick up trash in unmarked rental trucks between July 2 and August 1, 2018. Carolina Waste will pick up trash in Waste Pro cans. They will add recycling routes to pick up cardboard and paper after August 1, 2018.
Carolina Waste & Recycling, LLC will only collect garbage between July 2 and August 1, 2018. On August 1, Carolina Waste & Recycling, LLC will begin collecting paper and cardboard recycling in 65 gallon rolls carts they will be distributing to all Summerville residents. Carolina Waste & Recycling, LLC will service Waste Pro roll carts for garbage in July until residents receive Carolina Waste roll carts.
“We understand the importance of providing garbage and recycling collection services in a timely manner,” Russell W. Cornette, Jr., Director of Public Works & Summerville Town Engineer, said. “This is why we have worked very hard to get Carolina Waste to start services even earlier than we expected.”
Carolina Waste will begin distribution of their roll carts the week of July 9.
Waste Pro will begin picking up their roll carts the week of July 16.
